Experts Weigh In

"Each time Brass Lion has entered, they've always got Gold or Gold Outstanding...they have that kind of proven calibre. They're representing what I think is the most exciting forefront of gin right now – Asian gin with much more provenance and authenticity."

"Not only does Singapore have some of the world's greatest bars, it's now also home to the world's best gin. The International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) has just confirmed this, naming Brass Lion Distillery the International Gin Producer of the Year 2025 at its recent awards presentation in London. This is the highest achievement for a gin producer, and we're more than thrilled that a homegrown brand gets to receive that honour."

Not only did its Hawthorn and Pearl Jasmine gins take home gold medals at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), [Brass Lion] made history in November by becoming the first Singapore distillery to be awarded the IWSC 2025 International Gin Producer Trophy. The brand’s celebration of its Asian identity is particularly resonant this year, underscored by another milestone: being named the official gin of the iconic Singapore Sling by Raffles Hotel Singapore in March.

Pearl Jasmine Gin was awarded the 2025 Flavored Gin Trophy with a near-perfect score of 99/100 points. On the palate, the gin is elegant and complex, showcasing flavors of juniper, pine resin, jasmine and slightly tannic tea. The finish is smooth and floral, with lingering jasmine, herbal green tea and subtle juniper notes. Although this is technically a flavored gin, it could easily pass as a contemporary-style gin.

    What is the IWSC?

The International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) is the world’s oldest and most respected wine and spirits competition. Founded in 1969, the IWSC is internationally recognised for its rigorous blind tasting process combined with scientific analysis, setting the global benchmark for quality in wines and spirits.

Each year, the competition evaluates thousands of entries from close to 90 countries, awarding Gold Outstanding, Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals to the most exceptional products.

What is the IWSC International Gin Producer award?

The IWSC International Gin Producer Trophy recognises distilleries with outstanding quality, consistency and innovation across multiple entries and is judged by an international panel of experts. It is the highest honour a distillery can achieve globally.

    Who judges the IWSC awards?

The IWSC is judged by a panel of around 250 global industry experts, including Masters of Wine, sommeliers, buyers, winemakers, distillers, journalists, and retailers. Selected for their specialist expertise, judges conduct blind tastings to ensure impartial and consistent evaluation.

All judges undergo dedicated training and assess entries in expert panels, scoring each drink methodically to uphold the IWSC’s high judging standards.

Why does the IWSC awards matter for spirits lovers?

For spirits lovers, the IWSC offers confidence and clarity in a crowded global market because it’s a trusted benchmark of quality. Its awards signal that a spirit has been independently assessed and endorsed by some of the world’s most respected palates.

Recognition from the IWSC means a bottle has stood out for flavour, balance, and craftsmanship — making it a reliable guide for drinkers seeking genuinely exceptional spirits, whether they’re discovering something new or investing in a bottle worth savouring. When a spirit earns recognition at the IWSC, it’s a strong signal that what’s in the glass truly stands out on a global stage.

What awards has Brass Lion Distillery won in 2025?

Brass Lion has won the following awards at the IWSC 2025:

    • Brass Lion Pearl Jasmine Gin – World's Best Flavoured Gin Trophy | Gold Outstanding Medal (99/100)
    • Brass Lion Hawthorn Gin – Gold Medal (95/100)

Why was Brass Lion named the World's Best Gin Maker?

Brass Lion was praised for representing Asian gin with greater provenance and authenticity, producing high-quality gins that have consistently represented Singaporean flavours with originality and complexity.

Brass Lion's nuanced interpretation of the 'rojak' culture they come from – a beautiful mix of unlikely ingredients – along with their sustainable practices, also impressed judges, earning them the title of International Gin Producer 2025.

What makes Brass Lion Pearl Jasmine Gin the world's best?

Pearl Jasmine Gin features a fragrant, floral profile that's both bright and nuanced. Its complexity impressed IWSC judges and earned it World’s Best Flavoured Gin, receiving 99 out of 100 points – the highest score awarded across all categories.

Why was Brass Lion Hawthorn Gin awarded a Gold Medal?

Hawthorn Gin is Brass Lion's Asian take on a traditional sloe gin. Its nuanced flavour profile, along with its unique use of hawthorn berries, earned it a Gold medal at the IWSC 2025. The gin's aroma reveals dried florals and muted complexity. On the palate, it bursts with a chewy texture, balancing tartness and sweetness, vibrant orchard fruits and dried raisins that linger with each sip.

What botanicals are used in Brass Lion's award-winning gins?

Pearl Jasmine Gin is crafted using hand-rolled Dragon Phoenix Pearl Jasmine tea, which gives the gin its complex floral flavour profile.

Hawthorn Gin's key botanical is hawthorn berries, widely used in Singapore in traditional Chinese medicine. It offers sweet, tangy notes balanced by subtle acidity.

Has Brass Lion received any other notable awards?

Brass Lion gins have received awards from multiple prestigious drinks competitions including The SIP Awards, the world's only internationally recognised consumer judging spirits competition, where Brass Lion Singapore Dry Gin received Gold, while Brass Lion Butterfly Pea Gin and Brass Lion Pahit Pink Gin received Double Gold.
